I create forms that are primarily made from glass that relate my ideas about the relationship between individual identity and the collective consciousness. It is curious how the psyche of one lone person operates when compared to a person acting as a collaborating member of a whole group. My work is about the difficult process of discovering a route to identifying the correlation between what I observe, feel, and how I react.
Daily life can be filled with repetition. Familiar objects may seem to blend in and form layers or patterns, while others stand out or offer memories. The overlooked pieces of this environment inspire me to question function, lack of function, and form.
I often incorporate found objects and familiar shapes with glass. There is a complex relationship between an object’s original purpose and meaning when presented in a foreign environment. This environment I create utilizes objects either as part of a repeating pattern, as a reference to the figure and representations of the human. In a sense, I believe we are a product of our environment and we make what we experience.
